XenServer 5.5 Update 1 is available for download. The “snapshot disk space problem” should now be fixed… You can find more information about reclaiming disk space from deleted XenServer Snapshots here.

There are also some improvements for XenCenter and Active Directory integration. Update 1 also includes all the other hotfixes published for XenServer 5.5.

For what its worth, the backup tool I use for my XenServer environment, just released fully automated support for the ‘storage leaf coalesce’ (aka. snapshot cleanup). Its pretty slick actually, since it is ridiculous for me to setup cron jobs to trigger this snapshot cleanup manually. Now I can trigger a snapshot’s cleanup to occur immediately after the backup job runs, so I never have to worry about the ‘un-reclaimed space’ creep. It can also run a scheduled job of _just_ the snapshot cleanup against all my guests. Considering there is a free version, this might be very useful to people as just a convenient way to manage this snapshot problem until Citrix comes out with a permanent solution.

Anyhow, the product is called Alike (Release notes), and I figured it could be useful to others out there as a nice supplement to Citrix’s “half way” fix.
